Migrant Smuggling in the Horn of Africa and Yemen (RMMS)

13A new publication from the Regional Mixed Migration Secretariat (RMMS) “Migrant Smuggling in the Horn of Africa” was produced in June 2013, providing an informative overview of the political economy and protection risks associated with migrant smuggling in the Horn of Africa and Yemen. The booklet covers Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Puntland, Somaliland, South Center Somalia and Yemen. The research pulls together information on various topics including the varied routes through and out of the Horn of Africa, the economics involved (how much do migrants pay, to whom, how do they pay, what additional risks of extortion are there), the interplay with trafficking networks and the scope and scale of the smuggling trade in the region.
