World Refugee Day 2013 activities:

In line with the theme for WRD this year “1 family is torn apart by war is too many”, UNHCR
Yemen has been planning for months for WRD and prepared a wide range of activities in
collaboration with the implementing partners(IPs) and the refugee community in Aden and
Kharaz camp. This year the activities included concerts, art gallery, marathon, panel
discussions and sports. Media were invited to help advertise WRD, its related events and its
success, and ultimately to draw attention to refugee-related issues to a wider audience
within Yemen.

The concert in Kharaz camp:

Celebrations started at 09:00 AM at the school gathering court and were attended by the local authority; District Chief, police
officers, the Chief of the Camp Security, all the sheiks of the neighboring villages and of course all the refugees in their
different country represented colors.
In their speeches, community representatives thanked both UNHCR for its endless support but also pleaded for more
assistance and the Government of Yemen for the Yemeni hospitality and warm welcome. They expressed their desire to see their future improved by repatriation where it is feasible or some other durable solutions. The Head of the field office
on behalf of UNHCR thanked to Government of Yemen for their hospitality and generosity toward refugees despite their own socio-economic problems. He also pledged that UNHCR will continue to support refugees in Kharaz in all their projects and self reliance activities as
